Who can join?
Papillon Social Club San Diego is a private group for pet owners of full or partial breed paps.
Non-Commercial: Papillon Social Club San Diego is for pet owners only. We do not accept breeders or businesses.
Who is the person behind this?
The Papillon Social Club San Diego "Pap Club SD" organizer is Melonie. She lives in San Diego and is the crazy dog mom of two Papillons, Lemon Drop and Cherry Blossom. Find them on Instagram @lemondropthepap and @cherryblossomthepap.
The Papillon Picnic Club of Southern California is a decades-old group famous for its Papillon walks in Balboa Park, organized by a lovely lady named Z and her pink-taled Papillon, Folly. The group does not have a webpage, but you can get an introduction through Melonie and Pap Club SD.
Is this a rescue?
No, we are not a rescue. If you are in the tough position of needing to re-home your Papillon dog, find a reputable breed-specific rescue organization. Visit a Rescue: Pap Haven Rescue
Can you help me find a dog?
We do not adopt out dogs, sell dogs, or promote breeders. The club is for people who already own a Papillon dog. Here are some resources from AKC.org to learn about Papillons and to find a reputable breeder.
We hope you'll return when your new dog is ready to join the club!
Must my dog be a Papillon?
Yes, only full breed or partial breed Papillon dogs can join the club. We want the dogs to feel safe and comfortable while having fun through socialization with dogs who share the same breed characteristics. This creates a peaceful environment to engage in special activities like sharing treats. If you own a Papillon in addition to other breed dogs, we prefer that you only bring the Papillon to walks. Your pap will appreciate the one-on-one time. The need for focused attention from their person is a signature Papillon trait!
Does it cost money?
No, membership and activities are free. We never ask for money. There is no soliciting or using the club for commercial purposes. Each member or guest is responsible for personal expenses.
What can I expect on a walk?
This is a casual, friendly environment. Walks are low key. If you are a speed walker or expect to hike, this is the not that.
Walks typically began at 10am with the first 15 minutes spent meeting and greeting arrivals. During the walk we slow down, take breaks, and routes to accommodate everyone of every ability.
Some people decide to grab lunch together afterwards.
Arrive and leave when ever you feel like it. We are on California time.
Walks last 1-2 hours. If at any time you want leave it's OK, we won't think you're rude. It's common for people to come and go at their own pace.
What do I bring? In addition to a leash and walking shoes, don't forget poop bags, water and layers in case the weather changes rapidly. It's normal for the morning to start out cool and turn hot within the hour as the sun burns off the ocean cloud cover.
Can I bring treats? Please do not bring treats for the group. Be conscious of diets and food allergies and never share treats without asking the owner.
Where and when are walks?
The activity calendar is privately distributed to club members only.
Can I come to a walk when I visit San Diego?
Visitors traveling with their Papillon dog may join a walk/social while in town. Notify us in advance of when you plan to travel, and if it aligns with our calendar we will make arrangements to have your pup as a special guest. You must complete our interest form to contact us.
